Bard is wierd. You are a lot better in skillcheck and magic then skald, that's something. It have some probems tho - you won't get dex to dmg/hit early on, you have to use light armor etc. I think there were some melee builds for bard in kingmaker, but pretty sure most of them used dips in monk/paladin.
