It's harder to hold consistent wall thickness when the ogive is the bottom of the cup vs. when it's a flat base (even at the back of a boat tail it's still a flat base for a punch to hit in the draw process).Within 200 yards, it doesn't matter nearly as much. From actual match experience, the 1:8 performs beautifully with 69 grain Sierra Match Kings out to 600 yards. It may also do well beyond 600 yards, but that's the limit of my experience. 600 yards SD application isn't reasonable.
