My guess is that it is either the start button itself, the wiring that goes to and from it, or the solenoid is not working anymore. I would start at the solenoid, if you have power at the low current feed wire (the small one) on the solenoid when you push the start button, the solenoid is your problem.The no idle condition you are describing is exactly what happens, and this a very common problem, and has kept small engine guys busy since the introduction of ethanol. If your getting fire out of the CDI, check the coil next, then the plug. Process of elimination. Starts perfect with kick start. Pull the plug and crank it wtiuh the starter and there is no spark but the moment you let off the button, the spark appears. Thanks to virtual reality, Honda is relying less o Unscrew the spark plug cap and then clip a quarter of an inch off the end of the wire - reinstall the cap. Check the cap for infinite resistance with a multimeter - it could have failed internally. Try a different spark plug.
