SN is in the Jan-Jun 1942 range, most of which were shipped in 1942 with some shipped in 1946 - 47.It may be that the mag spiring that drives the loading button is too weak to do that. Stretching the mag spring a bit may help. If you pursue a real Colt mag at a gun show then take your original mag with you and compare it to a potential magazine to be sure it is not a clone mag.
